To be made in the Image of God is something wonderful to ponder or think about. What does it mean to be made in the Image of God? Do we know what God truly looks like? Do we look like God?
1. What does it mean to made in the Image of God?
In the creation story God says, "Let Us make man in Our image and likeness." Now, let us look at these two words that are plural; "Us" and "Our". If God is one; why did He use these words? In refering to those two words, He is talking about making us in the image of Himself; which is Trinity; He has three divine Persons.
If God made us in His image; the Trinity must be used; because where ever God the Father is; the other two persons are. They come as a set; not seperate. To be made in the image of the Blessed Trinity; means that the we were created by the Trinity, who also comes to live in us at Baptism and moves in for good at Confirmation. The image of the Triune God is on our soul but He also lives in our soul.
Now, what does it mean to be made in His Image?
It means we can think, come to know Him, we can remember. Everything we use our brain for; thinking, remembering, come to know Him, come to know other things by using our intellect. To use our intellect; is what I am doing here; writing on this marvelous or great topic. I can only write so much on this topic and yet only scratch the surface.
To be able to come to know Him by using our intellect; is finding out that God exsist and that He knows you personally. He created you and if you use what He gave you; you can come to know Him and love Him. You can try and be like St. Thomas Aquinas on using his intellect by writing on God to prove He exsist; which I like to do or get on your knees and ask Him to show Himself to you; He will; but He will speak to you in your soul. Even if you have never been baptized; He lives in your soul; He will speak to you in your soul; but to hear Him; you must be in silence.
To hear Him; you must be in slience and come to Him in a humble way. Do not come to Him in a prideful way; a testing way; because we are not to Test Him. Just go to Him as a little child. He will answer but not in your way you want it; but how He wants to. Go to Him and get to know Him.
2. Do we know what God truly looks like?
Yes, with the Holy Shroud and the original painting Jesus asked St. Maria Fustina to paint; the face on the painting matches up with the face on the shroud. Jesus is God made Man. He has the face of the invisible God.
When the Father sees us at the gate and sees the face of His Son; which is His image; He will welcome us; but if He does not; we will sent away to gehenna. We must stay away from sin or people who cause us to sin.
The Image of God is on our soul. We must always keep it on our soul; which means we must go to Confession if we think we have committed a sin or if we notice our conscience says we have sinned. Go to Confession as soon as possible.
Do we know what God looks like?
Yes, because in Scripture Jesus says, "He who sees me; sees the Father." We have it in Scripture and on the Shroud in Turin Italy. Those are our proofs. No one has to believe about the shroud; but I believe it's the Holy Shroud that Jesus was wrapped in. With that; we can see all His wounds and the disfigured face.
But, there is also another good proof of knowing God's face or what God looks like; by our eyes of faith. We walk by faith; not by sight. With our true eyes that help us live our faith; we can see God and we know He is there. It is like if one early morning and you feel a presence; a presence that isn't harmful but you feel the presence of God; and He is looking at you and getting your attention.
3. Do we look like God?
Do we look like God in the face? Well, I do not know. It could be possible when God made Adam and made Man in God's image; Adam and Eve could of looked like God; which would be the God-man; Jesus. Who has the face of invisible God. But, after the fall; our face doesn't look like the God-Man but the image is put on our soul; but when we sin; the image becomes dark; our soul does become dark and when we go to Confession and make a good Confession and true contrition.
I end this work by saying I hope I wrote well on the things of God and if I crossed the line any where; tell me and I will trash this work. Thank you and God bless.
