Luke 8:41-56 - And there came a man named Ja'irus, who was a ruler of the synagogue; and falling at Jesus' feet he besought him to come to his house, for he had an only daughter, about twelve years of age, and she was dying. As he went, the people pressed round him.
And a woman who had had a flow of blood for twelve years and could not be healed by any one, came up behind him, and touched the fringe of his garment; and immediately her flow of blood ceased. And Jesus said, "Who was it that touched me?" When all denied it, Peter said, "Master, the multitudes surround you and press upon you!" But Jesus said, "Some one touched me; for I perceive that power has gone forth from me."
And when the woman saw that she was not hidden, she came trembling, and falling down before him declared in the presence of all the people why she had touched him, and how she had been immediately healed. And he said to her, "Daughter, your faith has made you well; go in peace."
While he was still speaking, a man from the ruler's house came and said, "Your daughter is dead; do not trouble the Teacher any more." But Jesus on hearing this answered him, "Do not fear; only believe, and she shall be well." And when he came to the house, he permitted no one to enter with him, except Peter and John and James, and the father and mother of the child.
And all were weeping and bewailing her; but he said, "Do not weep; for she is not dead but sleeping." And they laughed at him, knowing that she was dead. But taking her by the hand he called, saying, "Child, arise." And her spirit returned, and she got up at once; and he directed that something should be given her to eat. And her parents were amazed; but he charged them to tell no one what had happened. (RSV - Gospel for the Sixth Sunday of Luke)
"When the woman was healed, our Lord said, “Who touched me?” so that she could profess her healing before everyone. Also, in the case of the little girl, he said, “She is sleeping” so that the spectators might testify that she was dead, and then seeing her restored to life, these who scorned would be converted into believers. The witness given by them concerning the death of the little girl and her restoration to life performed by the Lord was a witness in anticipation of his death. Those who would see that he was alive again would not deny it." (St. Ephrem the Syrian)
In the Divine Liturgy; In the Gospel of Luke: 1. the woman who was bleeding for many years; who heard Jesus was in town and touched His garments and Jesus asked, "who touched Me?" 2. A little girl who was dying while her father was bringing Jesus to his daughter and she died. But, she was in Purgatory; she in a way was only sleeping and He tells everyone this and she is brought back to life.
1. The woman who was bleeding for many years; who heard Jesus was in town and touched His garments and He said, "who touched Me?" Now, as we learn from St. Ephrem; Jesus wanted her to profess her healing but also that she trusted in Him and her faith in Him. Jesus only heals those who have faith in Him and if the town had any faith.
Why does she have to profess this to everyone? Because, maybe the crowd needed to hear this and believe in Him more. The people needed to know that He is God through this great profession by this woman and with this; I'm sure more came to believe in Jesus and came into the Church. Also, it brought Jesus to His Passion faster; the crowd was large and some didn't like Jesus; and wanted to arrest Him. More came to believe in Him; through this one profession of faith in Jesus but also some became hate filled against Jesus.
This Profession of Faith is great and it shown people that Jesus is God and Lord of all. At Mass every day we make the same Profession of Faith in Jesus and when one enters the Church; they too make the Profession of Faith. This is like the first time of someone making a Profession of Faith to Jesus. This Profession is not something to take lightly but most people do. If we are to make a Profession in Jesus; people died doing this and we joke about it now in America and other countries in the world.
Would we make a Profession of Faith and die for it or will we become a traitor and live? The Latin word for Traitor was created when the Christians denied the faith to save their own skin. I would make the Profession of Faith and die for the faith with the Early Christians. I would laugh and rejoice while I die back then. Would you make the Profession of Faith or deny the faith?
2. A little girl who was dying while her father was bringing Jesus to his daughter and she died. But, she was in Purgatory; she in a way was only sleeping and He tells everyone this and she is brought back to life.
This is the verse for Purgatory. Yes, Purgatory. This pure and innocent little girl who died; do you think she would of gone to hell or Heaven right away? No, because the gates of Heaven aren't open yet and so she goes to Purgatory waiting for the death and rising of Jesus; so the gates will be open.
Yes she was dead but not the second death; which is being in hell; death but a sleeping death is in Purgatory. She was waiting for the Saviour to open the gates; just like all the just people there; waiting since the beginning of time.
When Jesus comes to bring the girl back to her parents; Jesus taught a little bit on Purgatory to the professional crying people; to mourn for the dead. Yes, Jesus got laughed at or thought He was crazy; but He showed that the girl was just sleeping and she was in Purgatory.
When we die; we know we might not be able to enter Heaven right there; but thank God for a place that isn't always going to be there; but will be until the end and after that; it will be no more. In Purgatory we will be sleeping like the little girl; if we go to Hell; we will be dead; called the second the death. Purgatory is the cleaners for us to clean everything until we are purified; then we are taken into Heaven. What a day that will be. Always think on that.
Praise Be Jesus Christ
