Dear Friends,
Laus Iesu Christo. Praise Be Jesus Christ.
When there are local events going on one Sunday or during Saturday at 4:30 pm; which the Church calls Sunday; which is where vigil Mass for Sunday is done. This letter or homily popped in my mind that I wish priests, deacons and bishops would say and remind Catholics about this.
When you go to a ball game on Sunday and getting drunk and being sinful; also I bet lusting after the cheer leaders; or going to Corn Husking Contest and forgetting about God. When time on Saturday hits 4:30 pm; it is no longer your day; but God's day. When it's Sunday or any Holy Day; it is God's day and you are to spend time with God.
We must know that we are Catholics now and forever; which means we are a living sacrifice by being a follower of the Crucified Lord. We are to give ourself freely to God and we must follow His Commandments and Teachings; The Ten Commandments are not "Ten Suggestions" but "Commands". Which means we must always follow Him.
At sporting events that have become over-sexed by having cheerleaders in skimpy clothes and doing so called dance moves which are sexual actions. Why go to a sporting event; which the first sporting events were when our brothers and sisters died in the sporting stadiums in Rome? Ignatius of Antioch was taken to Rome and was eaten by lions; the Roman people cheered and found it entertainment.
Yes, pure fun; football for the little kids; where it's played for fun and the parents watched the kids have fun; not the cheerleaders. They do not drink and most of the time they do not get carried away; which is what all parents should do. The other parents who do; they are upset and prideful; because they want to use their children to do something they couldn't do or came up short. The children are wired differently and are different from the parents; they have their own life; the parents had their chance and they blew it; by waisting it all on sports and becoming filled with pride; now the parents must relearn what is most important God and help others get into Heaven; their children and spouse.
Treat the Sabbath with loving reverence for God and be with God; on all days; especially Sunday and all Holy Days. After Mass is over; do not be like everyone else; be silent and move up to the front and pray for a while; give thanks for receiving Him in the Eucharist. Just be with Him; He wants you to be there.
Sports on Sunday are not important; Sports on Holy Days are not important; Sports In General are not important. If you play sports as a job; NFL, NHL, NBA, NASCAR, etc. Guess what? Every Sunday and Holy Day; you do not work and are not suppose to work; keep it holy. People at home; better things to watch or listen to: EWTN and EWTN Radio; better yet; at the church in silence talking with God. Read Holy books and pray.
If this causes these things to lose money; so be it; we are Catholics first and that means we obbey the Church, the Pope and God. We are not to miss Mass; unless you have a good reason too: nurse, cop, sick, hurt, fire fighter, emt, thank God for EWTN that replays the Masses.
May God bless you all.
